An RBC/ChangeWave is stating that the Apple iPad is a more popular device than the iPhone was when it launched back in 2007. This is interesting news, needless to say. Just take a look at the impressions we’ve been posting since the Apple iPad was announced. Based on the same survey, the iPad is predominantly seen as a surfing device, not as a PMP (music and videos). Over a third says they want to use the iPad as an e-Book Reader. The lowest end is getting the most interested as less than 10% say they want it with 3G. The likeliest scenario of all: Apple, once again, will be proven right.

True, the iPad may beat the iPhone in “wantability”, but out of how many people? Stats can be used to say almost anything. More people wanted the iPhone, more people were interested in it, knew about it, and bought one. While I think the iPad will be popular and successful, I just can’t see it having the same impact on the same amount of people as opposed to a small mobile phone that does almost everything. The iPad is less marketable, it’s just as simple as that. There’s still a big market for it though!
