Microsoft, Software, Windows Mobile

Windows Phone 7 now officialWe know that Windows Phone 7 will be unlike any of its predecessors. This has been a consistent focal point in promoting the new Microsoft mobile OS. Unfortunately, it’s so completely brand new that it won’t even come with backwards compatibility shutting the doors on Windows Mobile 6.5 apps. This has officially been confirmed by Microsoft developer Charlie Kindel. This disappointing bit of news comes just comes days after the sad announcement that there won’t be a Windows Phone 7 upgrade available for existing Windows Mobile devices.

The good part here, though, is that it was likewise revealed that Microsoft won’t be abandoning Windows Mobile 6.5 just yet. It will actually co-exist with Windows Phone 7. They will continue to support the said platform in the years to come, and in fact, new devices based WM 6.5 will still be released in the market.

This will probably give you more than enough time to hold on to your beloved Windows Mobile 6.5 device until the day comes that you finally feel the need to upgrade to a new handset that already runs on Windows Phone 7.
