We know that the Windows Phone 7 series comes with Xbox integration, but Microsoft was pretty mum about its other gaming capabilities when they announced it last month. Today, however, we get some more clues as to the future of mobile gaming on this new Microsoft mobile platform.
Developers will now have an easier time creating games for Windows Phone 7 with the help of XNA Game Studio 4.0. This new tool allows developers to create a game/app and make slight modifications to it allowing it to run the Xbox 360, Windows-based PCs, and more importantly, the Windows Phone 7 OS. They confirmed that it comes with hardware accelerated 3D APIs specific for Windows Phone 7. As far as Xbox gaming is concerned, we hear that you can unlock achievements from phone-based games and also comes with “push notifications for asynchronous turn based gaming.”
Unfortunately, that’s all we have for now as Microsoft has opted to still keep everyone in suspense, and will make the next round of announcements at next week’s MIX 2010 event. For what it’s worth, at least we now know how Microsoft is making it easier for developers to create apps for Windows Phone 7.
