This latest bit of news might not surprise anyone given the long-drawn partnership between HTC and Microsoft, but hey, an official confirmation trumps speculation anytime of the day. What are we exactly talking about? We’re talking about HTC CEO Peter Chou’s revelation to Forbes that they will release a Windows Phone 7 device later this year. Of course, one can argue that HTC can already dump the Microsoft mobile OS in favor of Android given the self-proclaimed success of the Google-branded Nexus One and the impressive sales of their other Android-based handsets. The Redmond company’s recent disclosure that the mighty HTC HD2 won’t be getting a Windows Phone 7 upgrade certainly doesn’t help the situation either. Nonetheless, at the end of the day, it’s still HTC’s decision, and who knows, the new Windows Phone 7 series might actually be the savior Microsoft hopes it to be that’ll help boost sales of Windows-based handsets across the globe.

It’s not HTC’s decision not to put WinPhone7 on the HD2, it’s because it doesn’t meet the minimum specs set by Microsoft. No/Not many phones on the market do atm.

Do you think smartphone makers will be interested in Windows 7 because even the largest windows manufacturer HTC itself seems more interested in Android these days.
