Apple finally announced the arrival of multitasking on the iPhone via iPhone OS 4.0, but was quick to point out that it won’t be available on the iPhone 3G and older models due to hardware limitations. This video we have here today, however, begs to differ.
Thanks to an iPhone 4.0 jailbreak and some tinkering with the N82AP.plist, iPhone hacker cdevwill was able run multitasking on the iPhone 3G. Of course, one could argue that the apps he used in the demo aren’t memory hogs which could explain why it worked perfectly, but still, this is proof that it is indeed possible.
So, if the iPhone 3G can, will it also work on the 1st gen iPhone? Possibly since it runs on an almost identical processor. With that being said though, wouldn’t upgrading your obsolete iPhone to the current iPhone 3G S or the upcoming 4G iPhone be a more viable solution rather than just implementing multitasking on your already outdated device?

EXCELLENT! I help off on getting the 3gs, knowing that another year from then a new version of the iphone would be released… And now, even if it’s slightly delayed (or perhaps out of my budget) and at least use my 3G with multitasking (why leave this out Steve? Why?)
The thing is I have NOT jailbroken - I just didn’t find any apps compelling enough to need to have them, but I will jailbreak to get the multi tasking capability - something that I think should have been there in the first place…
