The Asus EeePad is now official. It’s not exactly what was rumored in the past, but they, it’s still a beauty to behold. There are basically two EeePad models: the EP121 (12-inch), and the smaller EP101TC (10-inch). Apart from running on Windows Embedded Compact 7, there’s currently very little info on the EP101TC, but as far as the EP121 is concerned, we’ve got its specs for you. The 12-inch EeePad features a CULV Intel Core 2 Duo processor (rating still unknown), webcam, USB port, Windows 7 as its OS, and a remarkable battery life of up to 10 hours. Price? It’s expected to retail somewhere between the $399 to $499 price range, but unfortunately, will only be available in Q1 of 2011.
Aside from the EeePad, Asus also officially announced the Eee Tablet which, contrary to its name, is basically their latest e-reader. It sports a 64-level gray scale 1024×768 resolution LCD display with 2450 dpi input sensitivity making it an ideal device for taking notes or just doodling around, 2-megapixel camera, microSD card slot, and just like the EeePad, is equipped with a battery rated to last up to 10 hours. Price range is pegged to be somewhere in the $199 to $299 area. The Asus Eee Tablet is scheduled to be launched sometime in September.
So, has any of Asus’ latest touchscreen offerings caught your fancy or is the iPad still the apple of your eye?

If it’s basically a PC in pad form, without crippling DRM or forced loyalty to any particular retailer for books and software, then I’m all for it. I will not buy a Kindle or an iPad, so long as their manufacturers try to control what I’m allowed to experience with their product. I can see spending 200-400 for an unrestrictive PC equivalent.
