Boy Genius Report is saying they have unconfirmed reports that the 8GB iPhone 3GS will be sold by AT&T at the cut-rate price of $99. If AT&T and Apple confirms this early, it might stave off a Droid invasion in the touchscreen smartphone market. The iPhone 3GS 16GB currently sells for $199 with contract, while the prvious model iPhone 3G sells for $99 with 8GB of memory. It means Apple fears Droid. An $100 decrease 8GB iPhone 3GS will not significantly decrease revenues… that is, if iPhone 4G wasn’t suddenly announced, which would make the price cut a simple act of clearing inventory.

Editor’s note: we wrongly stated that there will be a $100 decrease from the current iPhone 3GS model. No, the 8GB rumor is an entirely new model in addition to the current 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3GS.

It supports all previous versions of the iPhone as well as the latest iPhone 3G S. 3G iPod Touch owners are out of luck though as it’s still not compatible with this new jailbreak. They do have some new reminders though for you jailbreakers out there.

If you’ve already jailbroken either your new iPhone or iPod Touch, they recommend to just restore to a custom IPSW file instead of using DFU mode. Likewise, those enjoying internet tethering on a carrier that doesn’t support it are advised to stick with firmware 3.0 since upgrading will void this feature. As for those of you who ran blackra1n and have encountered problems with winterboard, diskaid, ifunbox, and mobilesubstrate, installing a custom IPSW file created by PwnageTool should fix these issues.

As usual, this PwnageTool is only available for the Mac OS X. Windows users will just have to content themselves with blackra1n or you can ask their Mac using jailbreaking buddies for a custom IPSW file which you can use to restore their iPhone/iPod Touch to. And no, we highly doubt this will work on the new iPhone 3G S bootrom.

Geohot’s done it again! Beating the iPhone Dev Team to the punch, he’s just released an iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak dubbed as blackra1n that not only works on the iPhone 3G S, but all versions of the iPhone and iPod Touch. It’s even compatible with the 3G iPod Touch though tethered. To boot it, you’ll have to rerun blackra1n again. This time around, it’s Mac users turn to be left in the dark as this maiden version of blackra1n only works with Windows. Geohot also reasserts the warning issued by the iPhone Dev Team for all those who have unlocked their iPhones – don’t upgrade to firmware 3.1.2 using iTunes. Once you’ve done this, the baseband can no longer be downgraded, and in effect, cannot be unlocked anymore.

So, are you ready to take this iPhone 3.1.2 blackra1n jailbreak for spin? If you do muster up the courage to try this out, don’t forget to hit us up in the comments section below as we’d certainly love to hear your take on this latest iPhone jailbreak.

IK Multimedia Releases GrooveMaker® Techno and Trance for the iPhone/iPod Touch

Electronic music for everybody- on the go

October 2009, Modena, Italy – IK Multimedia is proud to announce the release of two new applications for the iPhone/iPod Touch: GrooveMaker Techno and GrooveMaker Trance. Both versions based on the recently released GrooveMaker remixing application, these style-based apps allow everyone to create and share non-stop techno and trance tracks for DJing, remixing, multimedia and movie soundtrack compositions on the go, in real-time, just like a professional DJ or music producer.

After the debut of the first four apps in iTunes App Stores in August 2009, GrooveMaker has quickly become one of the top downloaded remixing applications everywhere, allowing any user to create professional, full-length songs in minutes, with its unique combination of advanced remixing software and high-quality included loops’ sound content.

GrooveMaker allows for instantaneous control over 8 stereo loop tracks, making it possible to remix the included massive loop library of drums, bass, bass drums, lines, pads, percussion and effects. Its unique and patented randomization feature allows musicians to generate a vast number of remixes on the fly, with one touch, to produce millions of possible groove combinations.

These tracks can then be saved, previewed and recalled on the iPhone/iPod touch devices or exported as hi-quality .WAV files to any computer using a Wi-Fi network.

There is a catch here though. Both device should have already been pwned before, either with 3.0 or 3.1, which basically means it won’t be able to jailbreak a brand new iPhone 3G S with firmware 3.1 installed right out of the box.

Yeah, this is a real heart breaker for newbie iPhone and iPod Touch owners who have a brand-new iPhone 3.1-powered device. Be that as it may, this latest iPhone jailbreak should be able to put a smile on the faces of early iPhone 3G S adaptors and old iPod Touch owners who have been waiting for an appropriate jailbreak to finally become available so that they can now update to iPhone OS 3.1.

Here’s some good news for you jailbreaking aficionados out there. The iPhone Dev Team has just released iPhone 3.1 jailbreak(PwnageTool 3.1) for everyone’s jailbreaking pleasure. Well, not quite everyone. The not-so-good news is that PwnageTool 3.1 doesn’t work on new 3G iPod Touch and the iPhone 3G S. You’ll have to wait for a new version of redsn0w for those models which should be released sometime in the near future.

The other limitation here is that this version only works with the Mac OS X platform. No Windows version just yet. Admittedly, this latest jailbreak might not be able to please everyone, but this should suffice for a number of you readers out there who haven’t upgraded to the latest iPhone and can’t wait to upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.

There were quite a number of reports that the 3G iPod Touch would be coming with a camera, but unfortunately, it remained only as that – a rumor. The 3rd gen iPod Touch got an added bump in storage and processing speed, but alas, no camera was in sight. So what happened? We don’t know exactly, but an autopsy of the 3G iPod Touch provides some insight into the matter and raises more questions at the same time.

A side-by-side comparison between the newly released 3rd gen iPod Touch and the leaked camera-equipped 3G iPod Touch reveals that something was indeed removed, and from the looks of it, it’s none other than the missing camera sensor. Was Apple just doing some damage control so as not to give legitimacy to the leaked 3G iPod Touch? We’ll probably never really know, and regardless of how much we continue to speculate on the issue, the 5G iPod Nano remains to still be the only iPod to boast of a camera for the time being.

David Pogue of the NYT agrees with us. The new 5G iPod Nano is going to be a hit. I know, tech blogs have by and large been very disappointed with Apple’s announcements yesterday, but PMPToday is not only about bleeding edge; we’re also about what the consumers want. And they’d love the world’s smallest camcorder, we think. Imagine being able to record up to 16 hours. On your cellphone camcorder, you have 2 hours at best. Anyway, now with a video camera built-in, I believe the price of the iPod Nano is just right. But feel free to type down your reactions in the form below. Read more of Pogue’s iPod Nano 5G review at the NYT.
