If you’ve already jailbroken either your new iPhone or iPod Touch, they recommend to just restore to a custom IPSW file instead of using DFU mode. Likewise, those enjoying internet tethering on a carrier that doesn’t support it are advised to stick with firmware 3.0 since upgrading will void this feature. As for those of you who ran blackra1n and have encountered problems with winterboard, diskaid, ifunbox, and mobilesubstrate, installing a custom IPSW file created by PwnageTool should fix these issues.

As usual, this PwnageTool is only available for the Mac OS X. Windows users will just have to content themselves with blackra1n or you can ask their Mac using jailbreaking buddies for a custom IPSW file which you can use to restore their iPhone/iPod Touch to. And no, we highly doubt this will work on the new iPhone 3G S bootrom.

Geohot’s done it again! Beating the iPhone Dev Team to the punch, he’s just released an iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak dubbed as blackra1n that not only works on the iPhone 3G S, but all versions of the iPhone and iPod Touch. It’s even compatible with the 3G iPod Touch though tethered. To boot it, you’ll have to rerun blackra1n again. This time around, it’s Mac users turn to be left in the dark as this maiden version of blackra1n only works with Windows. Geohot also reasserts the warning issued by the iPhone Dev Team for all those who have unlocked their iPhones – don’t upgrade to firmware 3.1.2 using iTunes. Once you’ve done this, the baseband can no longer be downgraded, and in effect, cannot be unlocked anymore.

Yeah, this is a real heart breaker for newbie iPhone and iPod Touch owners who have a brand-new iPhone 3.1-powered device. Be that as it may, this latest iPhone jailbreak should be able to put a smile on the faces of early iPhone 3G S adaptors and old iPod Touch owners who have been waiting for an appropriate jailbreak to finally become available so that they can now update to iPhone OS 3.1.

The other limitation here is that this version only works with the Mac OS X platform. No Windows version just yet. A side-by-side comparison between the newly released 3rd gen iPod Touch and the leaked camera-equipped 3G iPod Touch reveals that something was indeed removed, and from the looks of it, it’s none other than the missing camera sensor. Was Apple just doing some damage control so as not to give legitimacy to the leaked 3G iPod Touch? We’ll probably never really know, and regardless of how much we continue to speculate on the issue, the 5G iPod Nano remains to still be the only iPod to boast of a camera for the time being.

I know, tech blogs have by and large been very disappointed with Apple’s announcements yesterday, but PMPToday is not only about bleeding edge; we’re also about what the consumers want. And they’d love the world’s smallest camcorder, we think. Imagine being able to record up to 16 hours. On your cellphone camcorder, you have 2 hours at best.
