The wait is finally over! The iPhone Dev Team has just released redsnow, a jailbreak and unlock (orig iPhone only) that works not only on the iPhone 3G and 1G iPod Touch, but more importantly, on the 2G iPod Touch as well. It works similar to QuickPwn so the whole process should be pretty easy. However, the current version doesn’t work on Mac OS X systems still running on PPC. Likewise, all the precautions mentioned in the iPhone 3.0 jailbreak should be taken, and this doesn’t work on the iPhone 3G S as well. Apart from that, there have also been quite a number of complaints and problems being reported in the comments section.

Needless to say, worry-warts out there will have to probably wait for a newer version to be released before trying this one out on their Apple device. Nonetheless, if you’re brave enough to give this new jailbreak a go, then by all means, download redsnow from their blog now and don’t forget to hit us up in the comments section below as we’d love to hear how it turns out for you.

As you may know, non-Apple portable media players have long operated under the iPod’s shadow. Even before the multi-featured iPod Touch, Apple PMPs have been selling counterparts with better features. The obvious answer is that iPod has become a product that far outweighs the PMP market in its entirety. So not only can’t second placer SanDisk “out-iPod the iPod,” all its friends including Cowon, Archos, iRiver and even Microsoft’s Zune all have a very big job ahead just trying to get a foothold in the market and in people’s minds.
We’ve heard about a 32GB iPhone, but it seems that there’s more in store for use come June. The latest rumor is that Apple will not only introduce one, two or three new iPhones, but a total of six iPhone versions will be unveiled next month. They will be divided by storage capacity, 16GB and 32GB, and will offer three different radio protocols: 3G, enhanced 3G (probably HSDPA), and TD-SCDMA. We’re still clueless as to what it really looks like, but it is rumored to feature a matte casing. Likewise, a new iPod Nano is said to be in the works providing a wider 1.5:1 display, integrated camera, and a smaller click wheel. The inclusion of a camera maybe stretching it a little bit too far, but hey, this is Apple were talking about so anything’s possible. We’re expecting more news as well as rumors to surface in the coming week heading to WWDC so stay tuned for more updates.

These set of Manny Pacquiao wallpapers may seem a little old and have a little marketing slant in them, but they still look cool, and more importantly, are one of the few iPhone/iPod Touch ready wallpapers you can download for use on your Apple device. These Manny Pacquiao wallpapers were made by Nike Philippines to honor the Filipino boxer. Our source had resized them to make it easier to use on an iPhone. Simly right click them, and save them to your computer for later upload to your iPhone or iPod Touch. Safe to say, if you’re one of the many who just can’t get enough of the Pacman, these Manny Pacquiao iPhone wallpapers are highly recommended and will definitely pair up nicely with the Manny Pacquiao iPhone skin.

Every Filipino is proud of Manny Pacquiao’s convincing victory over the British Hitman Ricky Hatton, and if you’re one of the millions of Filipinos across the globe who want to further show your nationalistic side, then why don’t you bling out your iPhone and other portable gadgets with some Jeepney skins? This set of skins follow in the same tradition as the local jeepneys found in Metro Manila where every vehicle is adorned with lavish decorations to make it stand out from the rest of the pack. Jeepney skins does the same thing with your iPhone and PMP, but with a little Filipino flare. They even have many Pacquiao skins in their collection as well. Average price of these skins are $15. So, if you want to give your aging iPhone, PSP, PMP or mobile phone a new look, then give Jeepney skins a try and be proud that you’re a Filipino.

I have been looking for a Shuffle 3G clone since it was first announced and until now there’s no clone in sight. I wonder why. iSuppli, which does research on the PMP market, have looked deep into what makes an iPod Shuffle 3G and found out that all told, the parts and packaging are only worth $21.77. The new iPod Shuffle is the most profitable Apple device yet…

That’s about 28% of the device’s retail price. The smaller the component cost as a percentage of price, the higher the potential profit. This suggests the per-unit profit margin on the shuffle is higher than on other iPod models. The component cost for the first iPod touch released in 2007, for instance, amounted to about $147, or about 49% of its $299 retail price. The component cost of the third-generation iPod nano, also released in 2007, amounted to about 40% of its retail price.

That leaves a lot of room for Chinese cloners, right? It didn’t take them long at all to clone the Nano 3G (Phatty) and the back to slim Nano 4G.Only that I’m not sure they are capable of manufacturing an MP3 player similar to the iPod Shuffle 3G. Component parts may be cheap but the research it takes to produce something so small may not readily translate for the OEM manufacturers, especially that $1.20 lithium battery that could be the smallest ever in mass production. All they have until now are these Shuffle cases.

That’s according to a WSJ report, and he has actually played a key role in the making of iPhone firmware 3.0 and in new product development. It was also confirmed that a new iPhone and new iPod Touch model is indeed on the way, which isn’t actually that surprising anymore, but what is interesting is that a tablet Mac was also mentioned being in the works. It’s supposedly bigger than the iPhone, but a lot smaller than current laptops. Could this finally be the Macbook Nano netbook that has been rumored in the past?
Most everyone who owns an Apple product loves ‘em, and the iPod Shuffle is no exception. But sometimes gadget love for the MacBook, the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPod Nano doesn’t translate very well to the new iPod Shuffle. What I mean is cases, specifically leather cases for the iPod Shuffle. Seriously, you actually expect a tech user in his right mind to slip a gadget as tiny as the iPod Shuffle 3G inside a leather case? And one even uses a loop fastener.

Honestly, the only Shuffle case that makes sense is the keychain pouch, which can be found here.

It’s still a far cry from Yellowsnow, QuickPwn or any of the full jailbreak tools available for the iPhone, but the newly released Redsnow 2G iPod Touch jailbreak beta is best thing available now from the iPhone Dev Team if unlocking your 2G iPod Touch is your main concern. A version is available for Windows, Linux and even Mac OS X, but unfortunately, it still runs on a command-line only. So, if you feel threatened using such a primitive interface, we suggest you wait a little bit longer for a GUI-based Redsnow jailbreak to be released. If not, you can always just go ahead and use QuickFreedom. It’s not from the iPhone Dev Team, but if it gets the job done, why wait for the final version of Redsnow to come out?

iPhone 3.0 firmware has just be previewed, and I must say, it definitely got us interested. With the exception of supporting background apps, it features almost all of the features we were hoping the iPhone 3.0 firmware will come with and then some for the 2G iPod Touch as well. Here’s a quick rundown of the new features and apps it will come with:

•	Cut, copy and paste
•	MMS with message forwarding and deleting of multiple messages
•	Bluetooth stereo A2DP
•	Tethering
•	New Spotlight feature for universal search on the iPhone/iPod Touch
•	New Voice Memos app
•	Revised Stocks app that features news stories and supports landscape view
•	Calendar now supports CalDAV and subscriptions in the .ics format
•	Landscape view for Mail, Text and Notes
•	Note syncing to Mac and PC
•	Parental controls for TV shows, movies and App Store apps
•	Auto-login for WiFi hotspots
•	Shake the shuffle iPod playback
•	Phishing protection
•	Form auto-fill
•	YouTube account support
•	Bluetooth on the 2G iPod touch

[via engadget]

They’ve also included some new features developers can take advantage of when creating and/or updating their apps. Here’s what future apps can boast of:

•	Push functionality
•	Peer-to-peer Bluetooth connectivity for gaming and info-swapping.
•	Paid apps can be subscription fee-based, and include option to buy content directly from inside the app.
•	New apps can use Google Maps, and make turn-by-turn available apps for the phone.
•	Developers can integrate hardware accessory support via Bluetooth or dock for their apps
•	Streaming video and audio can be included in apps as well as in-game voice use

The iPhone 3.0 SDK is already available, and we’re pretty sure it won’t take long before the iPhone Dev Team gets their hands on one and start working on an appropraite jailbreak to crack this baby. This new firmware is also compatible with 1G iPhones though MMS and A2DP won’t be available as a result of hardware limitation. iPod Touch owners who want to avail of this new firmware will have to cough up $9.95 to update to iPhone 3.0.

From the way it looks, it almost seems perfect, but I know you folks out there probably still have a little nitpicking here and there. So let’s get the ball rolling on this one; what do you think is lacking in iPhone 3.0 firmware or don’t you like about it?
