OpenClip is not an app, but rather a community who, like everyone else, wants to have Cut/Paste functionality in the iPhone/iPod Touch. So much so that they’ve taken the initiative to make this a reality by sharing their knowledge with others so that developers can integrate this feature into their software. No need to jailbreak or download a particular plug-in to avail of this feature. Just get yourself one of the participating apps, and you can use cut/paste in the app itself as well as with the others in the select group.

Kudos to these guys for taking the time and effort to bring this desired functionality to the iPhone even if it’s limited to a handful of apps only. I wonder when will Apple finally come to their senses and make it an official feature on the device?

Coinciding with the debut of the new look of their web portal, Facebook has also announced that version 2.0 of the iPhone/iPod Touch app will arrive in the App Store in September. They’ve also made available preview screen shots of what we can expect from the latest update to the social networking app specially designed for Apple’s premier mobile device.

This little iHologram app is by far one of the coolest things we’ve seen done for the iPhone, but aside from drawing those jaw-dropping reactions from your friends, it pretty much belongs to the not-so-productive bunch of the group. Created by David OReilly, the illusion is created using a technique called anomorphosis which basically fools you into seeing 3D objects instead of 2D drawings. A constant 35-45 degree viewing angle is key for this to work and when paired with the iPhone’s accelerometer, it does just that by adjusting the image accordingly whenever you tilt or move the device.

Too bad iHologram isn’t available yet in both the App Store and Cydia/Installer.app as this looks destined to be a hit. It’s simply amazing what a little imagination and some technical expertise can do when you put the iPhone into the picture.

Remember that kill switch feature that 2.0.1 comes with? Well, those ever reliable folks behind the Pwnage tool have found a way not only to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone, but also disable the kill switch as well. You’ll need the latest Pwnage tool, and the updated BossPrefs app to do this. Once you’ve got both, just select the Disable Apple App Killswitch in BossPrefs and you’re done.

Just a word of caution: Apple may have put that feature there for purpose and by disabling it, well, you know what I mean. So far, there’s no harm done either by having it present or not, but let’s just say some folks sleep better at night knowing that it’s not there anymore.

We’ve already featured two apps (Qik and Flixwagon) that add some versatility to the iPhone’s camera, and here’s another to add to your collection, Watch it Change. It’s available in the App Store; and unlike the first two, this one isn’t for free and it’ll cost you $6.99. However, for that price, you’ll land yourself a truly entertaining piece of software that’ll unleash the Steven Spielberg in you.

What does it exactly do? It’s a stop motion video application that let’s you easily create a short films using clay, toys, drawings or basically anything inanimate which you want to bring to life. Prior to firmware 2.0, the Simplify Media app used to be exclusively available to jailbroken iPhones and iPod Touches. It’s a good thing though that now, it’s also available in the App Store as well. It’s still free of charge, and they’ve added some features that might make this version a little bit more enticing than its predecessor.

Here’s another app that’ll put more functionality into the iPhone’s camera than just taking pictures. Flixwagon has just released their latest version that’s compatible with the 3G iPhone and 2.0.1 software. With a frame rate of 12 frames per second, you’ll be able to shoot smooth video effortlessly. Is it too good to be true? Well, it’s good enough for MTV to use it to broadcast the Jonas Brothers’ tour last weekend which garnered over 6 million video streams in 36 hours.

Yeah, the new iPhone now has 3G connectivity, but it still doesn’t support live video streaming from the built-in camera. This is where Qik comes in. Qik is an app that allows you to do what is currently impossible to the iPhone: make it a live streaming video camera. It’s not available in the App Store, which means you’ll have to have a jailbroken iPhone to download and it make it work. The latest version now supports even 1.1.4 running iPhone, but it won’t stream over an EDGE network.

Just sign up at Qik’s website to receive an SMS to activate it. Installation of the app itself is as easy as going to Multimedia Section in Cydia and clicking Qik, and you’re done.

GeoGraffiti is a new take on leaving landmarks or notes in selected locations. Instead of just leaving text messages, you get to assign voice notes to locations of particular interest. If you’re in the vicinity of a voice-tagged location, you will then be alerted so you can listen to it. Since it makes use of GPS, this nifty little app will only work on the iPhone. If not for anything else, it’s a novel way of discovering the world by listening to other people’s opinions, and a way for you to also share your views with others as well.

It’s free to download, but just be wary that since the service is completely free of charge, it’s open to abuse as well. Nevertheless, those who know how to utilize this technology responsibly will surely find it a very useful app in the long run.
