Details of Acer’s Eee PC beater have surfaced and they are too tempting to pass - though we usually cover the portable devices with multimedia entertainment focus. Screen, chassis and processor (1.6GHz Atom N270) are the same in all three models. What I find interesting is the OS-storage combo and the pretty even pricing between versions:

All come with a 1.3 megapixel camera, 802.11b/g, Ethernet, three USB 2.0, 3-cell L-Ion with option for a 6-cell one. Acer’s Aspire One series goes head to head with manufacturing rival Dell’s mini-Inspiron.Obviously, these two ultraportable notebooks leave the Eee PC in the dust in the looks department. The original Ee PC 701 may be the undisputed champion in its price range. Asus though may need to rethink its strategy in the $500 price range.

Asustek will be unleashing a barrage of Eee PCs. If the Eee PC 1000 may be a too pricey laptop alternative for you, the new 90x models might be the subnotebook for you. We don’t have the prices yet but it’s safe to say the 903, 904, 905 will be in the EeePC 901 price range. The screen and everything inside the 901 will be in the other 90x Eee PCs but these will be inside the chassis of the 1000. That means, bugger keyboard, but sam Atom processor and screen size. I’m curious, though, what features 903, 904, 905 have different from one another.

Asus has made the Eee PC 1000 (10-inch screen) available in their home ground Taiwan. It’s pricey, selling in Taiwanese money for the equivalent of $625. It’s definitely not the old Eee PC 700 but something closer to regular-sized laptops. But, heck, ultraportables weren’t exactly cheap. Compared to the old 12 inchers from Sony and Dell, this ultraportable is affordable.

Next Tuesday, we will see yet another Eee PC model. The 10-inch Asus Eee PC is slated for a November shipping. Pricing is still unknown and so are the specs. Hopefully the premium we are paying for the low-spec’d ultraportable will no longer be valid on the 10-inch model. Translation: Eee PC 1000 should be cheap with normal-laptop specifications.

This comes from DigiTimes, a publication that focuses on Asian IT news. Asus will be launching a successor of the newly launched EeePC 900, which will, of course, be called EeePC 901. The 901 will have an Intel Atom processor and Bluetooth added as well. Bluetooth is a great addition to the Eee PC model but with the Eee PC 901 coming with a $650 price tag (prolly with XP), Asus will be hard pressed to sell this into the same market that made the Eee PC the most popular sub-notebook ever.

News from Digitimes is not always right on the money but Digi is a respected Chinese publication and it’s based on where the actual devices in question are being built. This time around, the “big deal” might have something to do with translating Chinese into English (digitally through Google Translator and Altavista’s Babelfish). It’s either Asus will launch a spin-off company, somewhat independent from the mother, Asustek, or Didi is merely stating a previous announcement from Asus: the Eee PC is a strong enough brand name to have its own line of computer products.

Though Jerry Shen, ASUS CEO, says the Eee PC subnotebook will not exceed a 10-inch screen size, an 11-inch Eee PC, offering portability, flash memory and low pricing, does not sound like a bad idea for consumers.

“In other news, in addition to the Eee PC 900, the company will launch the Eee PC 1001 with a 10-inch panel as well as an 11-inch model by the end of this year, market sources have revealed.”

The 8.9-inch Asus Eee PC with multi-gesture track pad and running on Windows XP is arguably just as anticipated as the original 7-inch Eee PC. It’s not going to be the Intel’s Atom version of processor inside the mini-laptop, though. Do we care? Price for the Eee 900 starts at $549.

The 8.9-inch Eee PC is identical to the original 7-inch one with a few improvements. The screen, of course, is bigger, and the  trackpad as well, which in combo should almost justify the price upgrade, and you ave to include the 12GB SSD. The weight (under 1kg) has bee maintained, which is good, and battery life, according to the guy talking on camera, is similar to the original Eee PC. The specs says multitouch trackpad but I guess this wasn’t shown on camera.

Terrific news for Eee PC fans. Spotted at the FCC site is not only a 9-inch Eee PC or a touch screen Eee PC, but a 9-inch multi-touch screen Eee PC.

The original Eee PC has a touchpad made for elf fingers. Most likely, with two-finger scrolling support the touch pad would be much larger, though it doesn’t look it on the image. I wonder how much this contraption will cost on retail, but I bet Eee PC wouldn’t be synonymous anymore with cheap laptop.

If you have resigned to the fact that Asustek is not going to release a touch screen Eee PC, better prepare your excitement meter. Manufacturers in China supplying touch screen panels say Asus has ordered touch screen panels and it’s going to be a a resistive touch screen. The new bigger screen Eee PC is scheduled for release in Q2 and just might have these resistive touch screen for an extra $10 on the MSRP.
