We love the look of the ONDA VX575, and now it’s been improved to support full HD. That’s 1920 × 1080 pixels for the non-technical folks. OTG function has been added as well. Besides these improvements, it’s the same 5-inch 800 × 480 player with a jog-wheel at the side. It’s not a touchscreen or WiFi-enabled with video and music playback as its main focus. The VX575+ is compatible with all of these formats: RM/RMVB, MPEG(AVI), MKV, MOV, FLV, MPG, VOB, MPE, DAT, TS, MP3, WMA, AAC, APE, FLAC, TXT. For $133.85, you get the 8GB version from the link below. Hopefully, someone produces a video demo soon but there’s really nothing to show: good music and video playing on a good 5-inch screen.

Not sure what the R in the ONDA VX777R stand for, but for $77, the 3-inch touchscreen player seems too cheap to pass up for me. There’s 4GB of built-in storage, which isn’t a lot and an HDMI out, but no mention of 720p or 1080p playback. The VX777R comes fresh from the manufacturer. This is ONDA’s latest MP4 player and so should be worth reviewing at least. We’d have a video for you as soon as we can get it. Full specs available at the link below.

The new 720p PMP from ONDA looks real shiny on a rendered photo, but like with many China-made portable media players the product photos do not always match with the actual hardware. At any rate the VX520 supports 720p videos. It only has a 3-inch LCD screen but you can always watch via HDMI out. Just connect the ONDA VX520 to a bigger LCD screen and you’ve got yourself an HD experience. Supprted video files: RMVB, AVI, DAT, FLV, MOV and MKV. No word on pricing.

Don’t mind the title, we’re not serious. As intriguing as it is, we doubt the ONDA VX343 form factor will catch on. It looks like a small makeup kit or a futuristic communicator. The VX343 is a 99 yuan ($14) MP3 player, which means this definitely goes to our cheap MP3 category.

Not much information yet for the ONDA VX343, but expect no higher capacity than the 2GB mentioned.

This HDMI-, HD-, OTG-supporting PMP from ONDA gives one an unbelievable decent viewing rsolution of 800 × 480 on its 5.0-inch screen. The VX575HD is also no wash out with up to 170 degrees viewing. That’s pretty good, but what I like about this PMP and what I think will distinguish it from the rest is the BlackBerry-like jogwheel on the side. ONDA calls it Intelligent Shuttle Wheel for scrolling through your video or music playlists.

The HDMI should come in handy as the VX575HD supports up to 1360 × 768 pixels in RMVB format. It also fully supports H.264 encoded MKV HD. In China they’re selling this for 499 yuan ($77). That’s the 8GB version. Ownta has it on sale, too, for a higher price.

Not to put too fine a point on design, ONDA has announced the VX313. Nohing fancy or Apple-like, just a square-deal with a clickwheel, 2GB of storage and an audio jack. For 99 yuan ($14) it’s a no-nonsense cheap MP3 player. Other features include a light 12.5 grams weight, USB and 10-hour music playback.

Everyone is going high-def in China. ONDA, one of the most prolific MP4 player manufacturers in China, has just announced the 7-inch VX797HD and a smaller 3-inch VX555HD. As their names suggest, both support high-definition playback.

Not much info yet, but they seem to be more of the same in the ONDA VX series. iPod Touch lookalikes with pretty good video codec support. The 797HD has a remote added for obvious reasons–you stand the PMP about three feet from your comfortably reclining self. Looking at these new ONDA PMPs make me realize it won’t be too long before they refresh their inventory with more interesting types.

Expected features of an ONDA HD player (though we do not have the official specs yet, we can glean from past ONDA players of the VX series the following set of funtionalities):

• multiple video codec support
• FM tuner
• TV out
• e-Book (probably)
• up to 8GB of storage

One of the most prolific PMP makers in China has come out with several impressive designs for future MP4 players. Made by ONDA fans, the common feature of course is a touchscreen. Besides this, each design is distinct and every one of them highly interesting. One of the most interesting is a touchscreen PMP that seems to have a clip-on feature. Another one goes a little retro but with a full touchscreen up front, albeit backed by solid wood.

ONDA iRiver SPINN-off EXTREME

Someone ported Linux OS on an ONDA VX747 PMP. It’s quite a thrill seeing a relatively cheap music and video player get a computer OS running on it. Just to be clear, here is the original software of the VX747, as we posted last year.

Here is the step-by-step on porting Linux on the ONDA PMP. The VX747 is a touchscreen player does have some juice with the Ingenic JZ4730 processor, so I’d be curious if the PMP can handle all the goodies Linux can offer, excluding wireless Internet of course.
