The claim by Chinese PMP maker OPPO hit us with a little shock to the system. China has never made high-def touchscreen PMPs before? I guess no matter how the rendered photos suggest touchscreen, it isn’t touchscreen when there’s no touchscreen. So we’ll take this announcement giving the benefit of the doubt to the new OPPO S39, the first ever touchscreen HD PMP.

Here’s what we’re really looking at when we are oggling the photo above:

• 720p video encoding
• 8GB internal

There seems to be a theme in the iPod Touch clones from China. Don’t bother adding WiFi, web browser or a powerful user interface, but sharpen or soften the edges and thin down them touchscreen Apple clones and make them cheaper. Now, we don’t have the relevant details yet of the OPPO S33 but we know it’s a 3-inch touchscreen PMP and will feature finger tapping, perhaps even swiping support, automatic self-orientation and I guess full-screen photo viewing.

The gaming swivel-screen PMP of our dreams has been priced. The OPPO G11, also called OPPO MUSE is a 3.2-inch touchscreen PMP with 4GB of storage and an MSRP of 1099 yuan or ablut $161, yes a little pricey for a Chinese MP4 player but this one comes with a Sennheiser MX400 headphones. You can play AVI, RM/RMVB, FLV natively with further compatibility for WMV, MP4, MPG, MPEG, DAT, VOB, ASF. I’m not sure why OPPO doesn’t give us a clear shot of the slide-out control pad. Looks like not every feature has been finalized after all.

Well, we thought we knew what the Smart G11 was all about. Here’s a regular-looking gaming PMP from OPPO equipped with a swivel screen and was supposed to be dubbed the Smart MUSE G11 or the Smart GAME G11.

I don’t know about you but whatever influences this PMP has, I just want OPPO to come out with a working model already. The article at imp3 explains that OPPO needs more time to mull over the design (photo below). I say crap!
