As we all know, the ZEN Moo was intended as a China-only release. The MP3 player is basically just a cow’s head with LED light. It’s a 2GB player with FM radio. For Valentines, you get a two-piece in a themed packaging. Ownta describes it thus:

Here at PMP Today, we’re quite spoiled with mobile devices featuring HD playback of up to 1080p–that’s full HD! The Zii Trinity phone supports 1080p. And in case no one believes Creative, they had set up a demonstration at the Zii Summit. Don’t make a mistake in underestimating Creative. Though they’re only eoffering the Zii Trinity as a concept for other manufacturers (read: they need partners), their product could totally do 1080p videos. Creative’s subsidiary ZiiLabs is apparently intent in pushing the convergence envelope. Their idea is simple and an old one: a single device that can be a phone, a business and entertainment device all at once.

he fab cats at CNET Asia has received their copy of the Zii Trinity. In case you’re excited about this particular phone, please read back to the first time we heard about the Zii Trinity (hint: it’s not for sale). It has also been revealed that ZiiLife is a service that will be divided into ZiiMeet, ZiiVue, ZiiAcademy and ZiiApps. Looks like a load of fun and potential from their names alone. The entire thing is of course brought to you by Zii Labs. It will have the Android OS with enhancements via the Plaszma user interface. The ZiiLife (the iTunes rival mentioned above) will also show off its shape and form. All very good, but we’re still waiting for the true to life Zii and Plaszma portable multimedia device or phone.

According to Dapreview, the new firmware 1.10.04 for the Creative ZEN X-Fi2 has given the rather forgettable touchscreen PMP a much improved user interface it almost makes the device feel new. Creative has itemized the improvements pretty humbly: a new color UI, better responsiveness, accelerometer and the popular Sudoku game. Our friends at Dapreview thinks it might be worth buying the X-Fi2 after all, after this update.

Still don’t know what the Zii Egg is? Here’s the official description:

Release to end user will be around the October time frame.

Intended as an OEM product, Creative is unlikely to mass produce Zii Egg on its own, which means we are totally caught offguard by this latest announcement. A Zii Egg smartphone running Android? Problem is, even if the show turns out to be an impressive success, there’s still the issue of too many names for far too many vaguely distinguishable products. I mean Plaszma OS? Stemcell Computing? And just what the heck is Zii anyway. Honestly, all I’m ever likely to remember about ZiiLabs and this Zii business is that the Zii Egg is pretty much an iPhone clone. So, if Creative is listening. First order of business in that Summit: explain in largely visual terms what exactly you are trying to sell.

If you’re on the lookout for an unassuming PMP from a well-known brand, you might want to take a look at the ZEN X-Fi2. It’s a 3-inch touchscreen player that doesn’t stray too far from previous Creative models. For the short list of features, go to our previous X-Fi2 post. Creative has three versions now available for delivery. The 8GB is $129.99, 16GB $179.99, while the 32GB is $229.99. Nothing special on this PMP–no OLED screen, no HD support, not Zii software.

Back when the iPod wasn’t known for its technological breakthroughs, Creative PMPs were a decent low-priced alternative. I don’t know what niche market they appeal to now.
