iRiver Smart HD PMP Video Demo Shows “Tilt to Browse”

Formerly dubbed the iRiver K1, the recently announced Smart HD should be a real alternative to the iPod Touch and the ZuneHD. The touchscreen of the Smart HD is quite responsive and the vuilt-in accelerometer has a few user interface tricks: you can tilt to browse. You can multitask as well by minimizing the player so you can browse. This is a WiFi-enabled player with a Windows CE operating system. If priced cheap enough it should be a good alternative to pricier touchscreen WiFi PMPs.

iRiver Smart HD, Formerly K1: Multitouch PMP

This just in as far as we can tell: iRiver has announced a new MKV-supporting touchscreen PMP. Dubbed the iRiver Smart HD, it’s a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 multitouch-(yes, multitouch-) screen with MKV HD video support. This PMP was previously announced as iRiver K1 last year but apparently iRiver has bigger plans for it.

We’re not sure if it supports 720p or full 1080p videos, but we can assume it will be one of the most usable (and reliable) HD PMPs in the market. Another good thing about the iRiver Smart HD is that it will be available with plenty of options including a 16GB version with everything on it (WiFi and DMB TV) that will sell for about $310 USD.

File support: MKV, AVI, WMV, MP4, TP, MPG, ASF, MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC, APE, WAV, AC3, xt, DOC, XLS, PPT, PDF, HWP, HTML, HTM, MHTML, JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, RAW.

Obviously, iRiver intends the Smart HD to be your all-purpose PMP with not only great video and music support but supporting all manner of text files as well (read: Kindle killer?). Prices after the break.

iRiver E30 MP3 Player Matte Japan-Only PMP

When iRiver announced the E30, we didn’t xpect it to make waves around the world. The iRiver E30 would only be a China-only launch and it doesn’t look like anyone else would be interested in its very basic charms, especially when you have a 2GB version priced at $66. The E30 lacks buttons but is no touchscreen, should play well but no special audio technology for the true audiophile (though there is the SRS WOW HD), and, again, the lack of capacity. So it comes as a surprise when we saw this anoouncement over at Akihabaranews.

The iRiver E30 Matte is the same 2GB iRiver E30 announced for China, with the only difference being the outer casing: 1.8-inch screen, 2GB storage, MP3, WAV, etc., FM, SRS WOW HD, and about 52 hours of music for… 6980 yen or $77 USD!

iRiver E30 PMP Now Available

It’s for the Chinese only for now for the iRiver E30. It’s a basic PMP and doesn’t hide it with its arrestingly bland where-the-buttons looks. The 2GB will set you back $66 in Chinese yuan. I’d love to have this iRiver on sale in my area. It’s an incredibly smart design that gives me the sense that minimalism may be the thing three decades ago (think Back to the Future) but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a fresh take on the enamel-look. The iRiver E30 plays 52 hours of music.

iRiver Hello Kitty MP3 Player in Black

We have no idea what prompted iRiver tocome out with a Hello Kitty DAP just before Christmas. The actual date availability is a little too close for comfort for generous Christmas gift giver: December 18th! Available only in Japan, it’s an elegant piece of accessory that just happens to play music. Available in 2GB and 4GB versions. Starts at $90.

iRiver Domino Inflate Chiclet Memory Stick: Wish it Plays MP3

The Reigncom Domino flash drives is one of the sleekest flash drives in the market when they were introduced. Now they look like Chiclet gums in various colors. Fully the iRiver Domino Inflate is available in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB versions, color coded in nice, gummy colors. Price starts at 34,900 yuan ($30) for the 4GB to 74,900 ($64) for the 32GB (not yet available).

iRiver N20 PMOLED MP3 Player Official

Details of the iRiver N20 has come out. The innovative pendant MP3 player from iRiver boasts a 120 x 56 PMOLED (passive matrix OLED) screen with four lines of data that should be good enough for text and simple icon displays. It measures 26 × 55.5 × 13mm and weighs at 35 grams. It can play FLAC and Ogg, among other popular music files. The iRiver N20 comes in 2GB and 4GB models priced at $95 and $110 respectively. Not a cheap MP3 player by any means.

iRiver K1, K2 PMPs, ready or Not

Korean PMP maker iRiver is readying new flagship PMPs. How about touchscreen with WiFi in an iRiver branded device? Nothing’s official yet but the iRiver K1 (a.k.a P50) looks to be a 3.5-inch touchscreen PMP with WiFi. A successor, the iRiver K2, will run on Google Android, presumably, with at least the same specs.

If you can imagine the iRiver P.PLE P7 in a sleeker form factor, with WiFi then you can imagine what is up to next in iRiver PMPs.

iRiver B30 PMP: £139 in the UK

The United Kingdom will enjoy DAB radio service on the portable iRiver B30. Available in 8GB and 16GB versions, the iRiver B30 is a 2.8-inch QVGA PMP and also plays video files and features touch-sensitive controls and haptics feedback. Battery life is pretty good at 40 hours for audio and 6 hours for video. Take a look at the list of features of the B30.

iRiver N Series to Make a come back: N20 is Real

There’s a new pendant MP3 player from the iRiver N series that’s got the Chinese blogs buzzing. The iRiver N20, former vaporware, may actually be real after 3 years in the oven. previously rumored to be the smallest DAP with a screen in 2006, the N20 may go screenless but in a more fashionable shape. I, for one, prefer a pendant MP3 player than clip-ons. Less worries of misplacing or losing it.
