We weren’t too impressed with the Samsung IceTouch, to be honest, but it appears the Korean company has bigger plans for the new OLED technology… 14-inch transparent laptop displays. The IceTouch will have the enviable task of making consumers feel comfortable about transparent OLED screens, though at $332 it’s a little steep. Next in line are widescreen SatNav devices. It’s easy to imagine we’ll get transparent laptops pretty soon.

Ahead of the Apple iPad launch, X2 has released the Windows 7 iTablet. Yes, a non-Apple iTablet and it is available in many sizes from 10.2 inches to 12.1 inches. It is powered by a 1.6 GHz processor and employs a hard-disk storage giving this baby a 35mm thickness, which is really thick. In exchange for the bulk, you get 250GB of memory, 3 USB ports and an HDMI out aside from WiFi, Bluetooth and a 1.3 MP webcam. The X2 iTablet also runs on Linux and is available in many colors. No pricing yet and this is a UK-only announcement, but this sounds like Apple iPad has been slapped with a glove.

The 100 hours is believable but then Yinlips claims to achieve this on a 5-minute charge! Not an entirely impossible feat for a company that gave us the YDP800 projector PMP. How much does the YDP102 cost, you ask? Only $20.

Would you get a matching 1080 screen resolution with that? No. The Hallods FH880 only gives you a typical 800 x 480 resolution. It supports MPEG-4, FLV, H.264, AVI, RMVB, MOV, VOB, DAT, WMV, MKV, ASF, TS and 3GP videos and WMA, MP3, AAC, FLAC, APE, WAV and OGG audio files. It’s also equipped with an HDMI out and USB OTG. The 16GB will set you back 26,000 yen or about $289 USD, which doesn’t sound right to me.

The ITG xpPhone was the first to offer the public Windows XP functionality on a mobile phone. However, Viewsonic is now ready to challenge them with their own Windows-capable VPCo8 phone.

This MID/phone boasts of a 2-inch display, 512MB RAM, 8GB SSD, WiFi, EV-Do connectivity, and an Intel Atom Z500 processor running at the very heart of it. Flip it open and you get treated to a QWERTY keypad. Shut it closed and the backside of the display features the traditional alphanumeric keypad so that you can use it as a phone. It’s actually reminiscent of the form factor first made popular by the Nokia Communicator series. Unfortunately, unlike the ITG xpPhone and Nokia phones, the phone and computer function on the Viewsonic VPCo8 doesn’t exactly work as one. So basically, it’s just two separate products built into one device.

It’s headed for China and will be selling for 4800 Yuan (roughly $705 in US currency). Aesthetics definitely isn’t one of its strongest suites, but if you’re after a portable Windows XP device, then this new Viewsonic phone/MID might just be what you’re looking for.

Dutch manufacturer introduced a slew of new MP3 players and PMPs at this year’s CES. They won’t break technological barriers but they’re all nicely metallic and reminds me of MP3 players three years ago. Here they are:

Philips Cam: the most interesting of the bunch because of its built-in camera. Not anywhere as thin as the iPod Nano but the camera is capable of taking videos and still photos. The 8GB is $99.99.

Philips Muse: 3.2-inch touchscreen, HDMI (possibly full HD support), 16GB for $149.99.

Philips Ariaz and Raga: We know the GoGear Ariaz and GoGear Raga from Philips. The players below are not the same models. They Ariaz (top) has a 2.4-inch screen with 8GB onboard and an SD slot. Priced at $79.99, it’s a lot less interesting than the GoGear Ariaz, which makes me think it will only be distributed in China. Ditto with the $44.99 4GB Raga.

It’s a big and powerful device with WiFi, 3G and GPS. It runs what looks like Windows XP, but today the Tainell is showing off shots of what appears to be a virtual keyboard that fans out from the bottom corners. We’ve seen this new interface before as a concept and Tainell believes it can offer such a keyboard on the T500. The specs remain the same, except for additional details like 720p video support, 1.3 MP camera and additional support for Windows 7, and Tainell has yet to announce pricing.

Last year, Coby had an awful time at CES 2009, and they didn’t do themselves any favors by showing up with a the MP836, a touchscreen player that didn’t impress anybody, especially Engadget. Yesterday was a reunion of the two: Coby, have their MP837 iteration and Engadget their usual selves. As would be expected from a company serious about its own financial health, the Coby MP837 turned out to be quite the little charmer: the 3-inch touchscreen with haptics is responsive and the user interface actually showed up. It plays 22 hours of music, including the OGG container for music files as well as Flash, XviD and H.264 video formats. PMP Today will wait for pricing and availability of the Coby MP837.
