25 04 2008

More from analysts. Citi analysts Richard Gardner and Yeechang Lee, the 3G iPhone will only be one of a series of very impressive Apple products (honestly, we’re more interested in this news). The old 2.5G iPhone will change slightly, specifically on the exterior and will be priced lower, somewhere between the $299 and $349, probably for all models. More promising news: Apple sold more iPhones in the quarter than they expected and demand is actually brisk, too brisk for the supply in stores. It’s about time the lineup is freshened up.

Telecom Italia to Sell 3G iPhones Without Revenue Sharing

21 04 2008

Apple may have finally given up on their lucrative business model for the iPhone in exchange for better market share. A rumor yes, but no ordinary rumor, coming from a major Italian publication, La Repubblica. In addition, 3G iPhone will no longer be exclusive - well, they may start as exclusive but it may end for a certain period of time, at which point users can switch networks. I hope I’m reading the Italian article correctly.

3G iPhone Design May Include QWERTY Keyboard

18 04 2008

Adding 3G on the iPhone may just be the ticket to make the Apple device a genuine hit in Europe. But here’s another rumor that suggests Apple would do more than just add 3G on iPhone 2.0. Whether this QWERTY iPhone is just one model of an entire line of iPhones Apple has been rumored to be preparing we’re nevertheless astounded that Apple may finally succumb to the tactile temptation. Some sources say that Apple have already tasked suppliers to produce 200,000 of the new iPhones by the end of May and by June Apple will have 2 million 3G iPhones ready to ship. The WWDC will probably be the venue for the official announcement.

Take the QWERTY iPhone poll after the break.

iPhone 2.0 and Other Apple Phone Rumors

16 04 2008

iphone-nano-iphone-2g.jpg

Our friends at GenerationMP3 have it on good authority that Orange France has already seen iPhone 2.0 a.k.a iPhone 3G. In fact, Orange is testing the device right now. Launching coming soon.

Even better rumors have come CrunchGear’s way. Their source says that Apple is going to announce an entire line of iPhones or Apple Phones. There will a basic Apple Phone model that will be called iPhone Shuffle will be offered. This basic Apple phone will retain the screen size of current the current iPhone but will do away with features like video playback. This phone will only be 6.2mm thick and will make do of 4GB of memory. With a $159 price tag, who can complain, especially if it can be bought unlocked.

Another interesting rumor has something to do with an enterprise-friendly iPhone. It will be called iPhone Pro or iPhone Max and will feature three times the battery capacity of the current model. It will be 3G and come in a thicker casing. To cap it all up, GMP3’s source indicated the next-generation iPod Touch will have 3G connectivity as well as GPS. Wow!

iPhone to have Broadcom GPS Chip

11 04 2008

Another very interesting iPhone rumor. Apple to add Broadcom GPS chip on the 3G iPhone. For Apple fans that have always complained about the lack of 3G and GPS on the iPhone, now is their chance to finally shut up and just buy the new iPhone when it comes out. And did I forget to mention third-party software?

Rumor: 32GB iPhone 3G

11 04 2008

The latest word on the unannounced iPhone 3G is that a 32GB version will be available for the price of the original 8GB. Yes folk, for $599, still cheaper than many smartphones, you can get the maximum amount of storage for a handset. The 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G will be available in $399 and $499. The new iPhone will also be 2.5mm thinner, perhaps due to the adoption of an OLED screen.

Nokia “Tube”: iPhone Killer or iPhone Clone?

9 04 2008

It’s not official yet and thank God for that. Imagine Nokia designing a phone that actually has more than a passing resemblance than this group from China, and in fact it can definitely pose as big brother to this slim guy or this guy or just about every Chinese gadget with a prominent touchscreen and a stylus. Nokia Tube should be available in the first quarter of 2009, which frankly is a long way to go for non-Apple products. I don’t see the Tube getting a lot of legs from this first leak to launch date. The “Tube” (real name to ne announced” has nothing knew to offer, least of all in design. It’s a 5th-gen S60 smartphone a large 3.0-inch-plus touchscreen, high-resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and goodies like Bluetooth, uPnP, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, WLAN and built-in GPS with geotagging.

If you ask me, Nokia is being too careful about launching a direct iPhone competitor. There is a camera, probably higher than 2 megapixel and tactile feedback (probably the Haptics technology they have been developing for the S60 phones). Frankly we’re not too excited about this phone being an iPhone Killer and we’re disappointed of it being an iPhone clone.

iPhone Mexico in June

29 03 2008

The Apple iPhone may e dropping across the border come June. By then it will be one year after it launched in the U.S. Telcel, which services 72% of Mexican mobile users, is the most likely distributor. The question is, will it be the 3G version of the iPhone. Telcel clients number 49 million GSM subscribers. Rival Telefonica will be left struggling without iPhone and will most likely be holding its breath after the Telecel iPhone launching hoping Telecel won’t it up the rest of that small fraction of the Mexican market it does not yet have.

iPhone as Lifestyle Companion

27 03 2008

One of Apple’s recent patents seems to be a new Nike+iPod system, using the iPhone as a “lifestyle companion.” The idea is to make the iPhone even more ubiquitous than the iPod. With the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer and smartphone functionality, not to mention, memory capacity Apple making it an all-around gadget doesn’t seem such a crazy idea. Extending the idea even further, Apple plans to use the iPhone’s camera as a calorie counter of sorts to scan the bar codes on food products, so if Apple adds a camera on the iPod Touch it’s only reasonable to expect that it can be a lifestyle companion too. It’s definitely a good idea to me and hopefully a new and more portable hardware will come with the implementation.

New Apple iPods in Q3 Says Wolfson

27 03 2008

iphone-clamshell.jpg

A disgruntled supplier, who was not picked by Apple to supply the parts of the new iPod revealed that Apple is going to release new iPod PMPs in Q3 of this year. Wolfson, which is based in Edinburgh, suffered a 30 per cent plunge in their stock after being rejected by Apple. The new iPods were a new version of the Nano and the Touch. Could this new Apple Patent for a “clamshell iPhone” we posted sometime ago be the new iPod Touch or Nano? With a flippable transparent touch-sensitive panel, Apple could put multi-touch functionality on an undersized iPod Nano.
