Geohot followers rejoice as your ever reliable hacker has just unleashed his latest iPhone offerings: the blacksn0w iPhone unlock and blackra1n RC3 iPhone jailbreak.

The great thing about blacksn0w is that it works on the new 05.11.07 baseband bundled with iPhone 3.1.2 firmware which the iPhone Dev Team has still yet to crack. For those who already have a jailbroken iPhone, just add blackra1n.com as a repo in Cydia to get some blacksn0w goodness. Once unlocked and you want to enable tethering, you can head on over here using your iPhone to select your carrier so that an appropriate MobileConfig file will be sent to your iPhone. Blackra1n RC3, for its part, is an improved version of his blackra1n iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak which still works on both Windows and Mac systems.

As usual, proceed with caution in attempting this, but if you’ve been aching to jailbreak and unlock your new iPhone 3G S for the longest time, then be our guest and try this all new blackra1n RC 3 iPhone jailbreak and blacksn0w iPhone unlock out.

The description from the makers:

The Endless Racing Game is one of the first multiplayer games, where the game action moves from one iPhone to another. Endlessly (or as long as you wish to play).

Features of the Endless Racing Game in the Multiplayer mode:
- Connect two iPhones 3G / 3GS via Bluetooth.
- Drive the car using the Gas and Stop buttons.
- Change driving direction by moving your iPhone (the game uses the iPhone accelerometer).
- Be aware of crossing ducks.
- Build an endless racing track by using just two iPhones. The car will jump from one iPhone to another, if you will reach the finish within 60 seconds.

They go on to add, for solo iPhone gamers:

You can also play the game in the Single-player mode (on one iPhone). But the game will end after you reach the finish in 60 seconds.

Geohot’s latest release is still basically an iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak, and if there’s one thing the iPhone Dev Team has the upper hand on is that they have an iPhone unlock under their name. Well, that’s about to change though as Geohot has just announced that he’s ready to release an iPhone unlock of his own via blackra1n aptly called blacksn0w (no doubt in reference to the Dev Team’s yellowsn0w and ultrasnow iPhone unlock).

The video above is a teaser of what we can expect to be launched on November 4. With Geohot now joining in to get himself a piece of the action, things are definitely looking a lot brighter for the iPhone unlock front .

Citing that Apple Infringed on at least 10 patents for “for GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN (WLAN) standards,” Nokia didn’t go into specifics, but did, however, divulged that the patents covered wireless data, security and encryption, and speech coding. They also went on the record to say that it’s been going on since the very first iPhone so we can’t help but wonder why it took Nokia that long to file a complaint. Nonetheless, it’s here and karma has finally caught up with Apple. As far as I can remember, it’s been Apple who has been suing people left and right for patent infringement especially when it comes to the iPhone, but if true, it’s only just fitting that Apple take some of the heat as well.

As a consequence, those who are still using the first generation iPhone (aka 2G iPhone) are left in the dark since their phone still doesn’t support MMS even if iPhone 3.0 software is already installed on it. Well, that’s about to change though as iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd has revealed a baseband hack called Whiterat that allows MMS to work on a 2G iPhone that’s running on iPhone firmware 3.1.2. He also divulged another baseband hack named two-bit which will be of special interest for those on AT&T who want to enable internet tethering on their iPhone before it’s officially supported by their carrier. A word of caution – these hacks are pretty hardcore and definitely more technical than the current jailbreak/iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak PwnageTool with no guarantees that it will work the same way a 100% of the time for everyone.

With that being said, if you’re still determined to give this software hack a shot, follow the links below and don’t forget to share with us how it works out for you. Good luck!

Still remember that Square iPhone Payment System we featured a while back? We still don’t know when it will be released, but we’ve found some additional info with regards to who’s really behind this novel idea which turns any ordinary iPhone into an instant mobile credit card payment facility.

Does Jack Dorsey right a bell? Yup, he’s the man responsible for bringing Twitter to the world, and we all know how successful that is. It turns out that he’s also the one piecing the Square iPhone puzzle together which says a lot about the technical know how of the guy heading this ingenious project. Of course, Twitter is totally different from Square being that the former is a social networking platform while the latter is a bit more on the serious side as it deals with financial transactions, but who knows, he may just have another hit on his hands here.

Don’t be surprised if one day you’ll no longer see Lite or Free versions of certain apps listed in the App Store. This is because Apple has finally lifted the restriction on free iPhone apps and in-app purchases. It used to be that paid apps where the only ones that were allowed to provide in-app purchases, but with this latest development, developers need not send a Full and Lite version of an app for listing at the App Store as they can already consolidate this as just one, a free iPhone app, with the option to purchase the full app later on. This will probably mean very little to majority of you iPhone owners out there, but let this just be a heads up that changes might be in the offing in the App Store as a result of this policy change.

Following the release of blackra1n, the iPhone Dev Team has announced the availability of PwnageTool 3.1.4 or otherwise known as their iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak offering. It supports all previous versions of the iPhone as well as the latest iPhone 3G S. 3G iPod Touch owners are out of luck though as it’s still not compatible with this new jailbreak. They do have some new reminders though for you jailbreakers out there.

If you’ve already jailbroken either your new iPhone or iPod Touch, they recommend to just restore to a custom IPSW file instead of using DFU mode. Likewise, those enjoying internet tethering on a carrier that doesn’t support it are advised to stick with firmware 3.0 since upgrading will void this feature. As for those of you who ran blackra1n and have encountered problems with winterboard, diskaid, ifunbox, and mobilesubstrate, installing a custom IPSW file created by PwnageTool should fix these issues.

As usual, this PwnageTool is only available for the Mac OS X. Windows users will just have to content themselves with blackra1n or you can ask their Mac using jailbreaking buddies for a custom IPSW file which you can use to restore their iPhone/iPod Touch to. And no, we highly doubt this will work on the new iPhone 3G S bootrom.

Here’s a fan concept that even Apple will not top. It presents an Apple iPhone doing multitasking with the help of Coverflow at the bottom of the icons. The Coverflow shows all tasks that currently run on your iPhone.

All running apps have a miniature representation in a cover flow at the bottom of the screen. To make room for this, each home screen page will have one less row of icons and the dock is removed completely. But since the running apps often will equal your favourites, they will still be easily accessible.

You can tap or swipe any of the cover flow miniatures to move it into focus. Then tap it again to bring it to full screen. Once an app is full screen, double-tapping the home button brings up the cover flow, letting you jump between running apps.

Now, of course, design vision is really only half the work (more like Steve Job’s work, really) and Apple will still have to make it work on an iPhone. To me, the idea is perfect. Apple should pay Ocean Observations a lot of money and make their idea real. Imagine the sales of iPhone then.

To deal with the clutter the deasigners have another bright idea. You see, people tend to leave Apps running while opening new ones and so they’d accumulate. They call their solution Springboard Exposé.
