Sony’s Disney S Series Walkmans Announced

Mickey Mouse themed PMPs are coming out of Sony Japan via the S640 and S740 Walkmans. The Disney S Series Walkmans will be available in a variety of colors starting at 13,800 yen ($152). There will be three designs available: Mickey, Minnie and the two together. The S640 and S740 were recently announced Walkmans. Apparently, Sony has also lowered their prices for the Disney version.

32GB Sony X Series Walkman only $299

The Sony NWZ-X1000 touchscreen Walkman has gone down in price, at least for the 32GB version, which is now only $299 at SonyStyle. That’s a $100 price drop for the X1000, the first touchscreen Walkman that also happens to have an OLED screen like the Zune HD. The X1000 has had a difficult outing with Microsoft’s new Zune as its main contender. It also didn’t help that the X1000’s video playback capabilities were not exactly something one would crave about. Hopefully, lowering the price would help though we’ve yet to here a similar price drop for the 16GB X1000, which is priced the same.

Sony Walkman X Series Software Update v1.10 Comes W/ Browser Improvement

The v1.10 software update is meant for Sony Walkmans NWZ-X1050/X1060. Sony says it will improve the NetFront browser. For those who haven’t tried browsing the net in this WiFi enabled Walkman PMP, this “improvement” is crucial if the user wants to do some Internet in their Walkman. Take note native Thai users. If you think you need Thai to enjoy your Walkman, this update may not be for you as it removes the Thai language support.

Sony Walkman NWZ-A840 Series Confirmed in Korea

The Walkman A840 is Sony’s thinnest ever and with the introduction of the 64GB Walkman A847, it’s about to change the way we see flash MP3 players. This is the sleekest in 3 decades of Walkman experience, so it’s quite the historic Sony PMP. The Walkman A840 is only 7.2mm thin and boasts a 2.8-inch OLED screen.

The series will be available as: A845 (16GB), A846 (32GB) and the A847 (64GB). The Walkman A847 will be competing with a cheaper iPod Touch 64GB. It’s obvious this Walkman series will not be doing too well in today’s market. If you think otherwise, simply put your thoughts into words below at the comments area.

Sony Walkman A640, A740 beefs up S-series collection

Here are two more new models you can add to the Sony Walkman line-up apart from the NW-A840 we previously reported. The S640 is available in 8GB and 16GB variants and comes with ambient noise filtration. The S740, meanwhile, boasts of noise cancellation and has more variations to choose from – 8/16/32GB capacities. Both models feature a 2-inch LCD display, 720×480 TV out functionality, and is available in a variety of colors. Begins shipping later this month, expect these new Walkman S-series players to cost somewhere between ¥16,000 ($155) to ¥25,000 ($277).

NW-A840 is Thinnest Sony Walkman

The new A-series OLED PMP from Sony is their thinnest ever Walkman. The NW-A840 is only 7.2mm, so thin in fact that there’s little choice not to make this an OLED player. The screen is 2.8 inches, which means you will need the video out option to fully enjoy the 720 x 480 videos this player can store. Like the iPod Touch, the A840 is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB priced at about $263, $329, $439.

Nokia N900 Rovers gets pictured and detailed, Headed for T-Mobile USA

Is the Nokia N97 not living up to your expectations? Well, then you might want to wait for this one instead, the Nokia N900 Rover (aka RX-51). 

This QWERTY-equipped touchscreen device sports almost similar specs to the N97, but runs on the new Maemo 5 platform, features a better 3.5-inch 800×480 display, dual-LED flash, and a more sophisticated and  plush look. It also features an ARM cortex A8 600MHz processor, similar to the iPhone 3G S and Palm Pre, so this phone definitely has what it takes to compete in the market as far as hardware specs are concerned.

As most Nokia Nxxx devices are internet tablets only, we were a bit skeptical at first if this is indeed a phone, but upon seeing that it supports quad-band GSM/EDGE, WCDMA 900/1700/2100MHz networks and comes with SIM card slot, we don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t be able to make calls on this device (unless, of course, it doesn’t come with a mic). 
It’s already FCC approved and looks to be headed for a T-Mobile debut in the US. Its price, however, is still yet to be known, but our guess is that it will be somewhere in the $800 region. So, what do you guys think of this new touchscreen QWERTY offering from Nokia?



Sony Walkman S-series w/ Speakers now on sale online

Still remember that Sony Walkman with built-in speakers we featured a couple of weeks ago? Well, it’s just appeared on a French site and is now available for retail. 

Two versions are available: an 8GB (NWZ-S544) model and a 16GB (NWZ-S6545) variant. Apart from the obvious built-in stereo speakers, this new S-series Walkman features a 2.4-inch QVGA widescreen display, FM tuner, codec support for MP3, non-DRM AAC, WMA, H.254, MPEG4, WMV files, microphone, and a Li-ion battery that can supposedly provide up to 42 hours of audio or 6.5 hours of video. We’re not sure if it will be released in other colored iterations, but black is the only one currently available. The 8GB version is retailing for 129€ ($182) while the 16GB model is selling for 149€ ($211).
So, is this good enough for you or were you expecting something more from Sony?

Sony Walkman W/ Speakers Has E440 Looks

We choose to believe this supposed leakage of a new Sony Walkman that will follow the E440 for one reason: it’s too boring to be a fake. The unnamed Walkman has built-in speakers top and bottom of the screen. The design is similar to the E440 except for the speakers, which should make this PMP a little longer. The Mickey Mouse controls have been kept, and, apparently, some very bold colors utilized. A very loud portable player that should cause no small amount of trouble to the public.

Sony E440 Walkman No-Nonsense PMP

We wish the Sony Walkman E-series would offer better capacity, as it is, the non-touchscreen Walkman will come in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB. It has a 2.0-inch screen, an FM tuner and recorder. They don’t have an official price for it yet, though release date seems to be in a matter of weeks.
We like to think the Sony name will be enough to sell the E440. Otherwise, there’s really nothing intriguing on this PMP.
