We’ve seen quite a number of tablet PCs already even before Apple shocked everyone with the announcement of the iPad. Now, you can add Samsung to the growing list of manufacturers who have hopped on-board the slate bandwagon as we hear that they’ll be launching their very own sometime in later this year.

Details about its launch and potential retail price are still pretty scarce at the moment, but apparently, it will run on Windows, an Intel Atom processor, and possible access to its Bada App Store as well. Samsung isn’t actually a newbie in this segment of the market as they’ve already made a couple of handheld tablet PCs before such as the Samsung Q1 MID pictured above, but of course, the game has definitely changed from back then. Will it be a hit or flop for the renowned and successful phone maker? Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long to find out.

We know that iPhone OS 3.2 exists and that the iPad will debut with the said firmware. There has also been evidence to support rumors of an iPhone OS 4.0 being in the works as well. So, which of the two iPhone OS versions will unify both Apple devices? According to The Loop, it might be neither.

Given the current timeline Apple is working with (iPhone OS 4.0 expected to debut this June with the release of the 4G iPhone), it’s highly likely that the particular iPhone OS which will tie-up both devices won’t be available until iPhone OS 4.1. We’ve heard a lot from iPhone OS 3.2, and it might not be made available on the iPhone given that it’s got specific features and settings that’ll only work with the iPad. Add to that the possibility of iPhone OS 4.0 becoming available as early as June, just a few months away from the release of the iPad, we’re starting to doubt it as well. With iPhone OS 4.1, on the other hand, they’ve got more than enough time to plan it out and develop it accordingly.

Anyway, this is pure speculation at the moment, and with Apple, you never really know. For what it’s worth, if ever firmware 3.2 doesn’t get released for the iPhone, I’m pretty sure there will be some resourceful folks out there who will be able to port the iPad OS to the Apple mobile phone.

HP has been very active in the netbook business having released quite a number of models already since the debut of the HP Mini Note 2133. Now that the trend is veering towards the direction of full touchscreeen tablets, it’s not surprising that HP will also be releasing a slate PC of their own this year. When this will exactly happen we still don’t know, but we do have this video courtesy HP and Adobe demonstrating its capabilities in front of the camera.

Flash is confirmed on the HP Slate as well as hardware acceleration for better performance and longer battery life. Obviously, HP is highlighting these features this early on since this is what’s clearly lacking in Apple’s recently announced iPad.

We’re still waiting on its other specs to be announced, but we have to admit, we like what we’ve seen so far. Hopefully, its price will be as competitive as the iPad or their netbook offerings, if not cheaper.

Besides Android 1.4, the FirstView PC607V also runs Windows CE. It’s just one of the cheap Android tablets there at CeBIT, according to Engadget reporter Joanna Stern. While Joanna never really took the time to have a good look at them cheap Android Tablets, we gather that the FirstView tablet costs only $95 and sports a resistive touchscreen that supports finger-input. Forsa and Huawei were also there with their own cheap Android tablets. Engadget has a hands-on video of the FirstView tablet. For a measly $95, imagine having a WiFi-enabled browsing device in your hands. Not bad at all, especially if it supports a host of video codecs.

Here’s one super gadget we never even dreamed of. A gamer with PSP Go sliding form factor that is equipped with WiMAX. Better than the PSPGo, the slideout console includes a QWERTY keyboard. The 4-inch touchscreen has WVGA resolution and inside is a 600MHz ARM CPU that is 3D capable. A 256MB RAM adds speed and power. The all-important operating system hasn’t been announced and the price and date of shipment remains a mystery. If priced correctly and given a high-quality audio chip, this could replace your more regular PMP.

The video demo begins with an unboxing and a good look at how you’ll be able to use the Witstech A81 as an E-Book Reader. It’s not anywhere near as thrilling as the iPad video demo. The implication, though, is obvious. As long as you do not mind stylus input, the Windows CE on the A81 is just as capable or more capable than the OS X on the iPad. As far as hardware specs, the product in the video below is a 7-inch MID (all around portable computer + PMP + E-Reader) with WiFi, Bluetooth and 16GB of memory. Priced at under $250, it’s a powerful Cortex A8 device with optional GPS and a whole lot of video, music, text and even MS Office programs supported. Chinese users will have built-in QQ. Click the link below for the store.

Jay Sullivan, Mozilla’s Vice President, proudly shares that their nearing the finish line on their work for the Android version with a target release date set for the end of this year. He didn’t mention any specific date, but did go on to say that they’re also pretty excited about MeeGo, the new mobile OS that both Nokia and Intel will be working on.

As far as Windows Mobile is concerned, they do have an Alpha version for Windows Mobile 6.xx already but its future is now uncertain with the launch of Microsoft’s new mobile OS, Windows Phone 7. They’re still deciding whether to continue work on this or scrap it and just focus on the new OS, but with a new IE browser also debuting on Windows Phone 7, FireFox Mobile might be in for a big challenge here.
