Even though many critics and tech journalists (us included) think the Droid has what it takes (and more) to kill the iPhone, consumers do not quite agree. Friday was Droid day and Droid simply Doesn’t sell, based on the turn out. In major cities across the U.S., there have been reports of dozens of people queuing for the Motorola Droid. the best lines are in New York City store wherein about a hundred lined up.

Verizon’s spin–”Long lines forming outside are flashy,” Verizon spokesman David Samberg said. “But it’s not really the goal. What we really want to see is this: a steady stream of people coming today and for the next few weeks buying new phones.”

The report over CNET had one commenter adding, “One reason for shorter lines is because the Droid is available at Bestbuy as well and perhaps other stores, I’ve heard Sears and Walmart also. I don’t think the iPhone was available anywhere else other than the stores and perhaps preorder directly from ATT site.”

But then, photos don’t lie…

The smart bet is on the iPhone… it will sell much, much more units once it gets attached to America’s most reliable network.

One interesting and very possible snag. What if the iPhone 4G we’ve heard about is none other than the CDMA Verizon iPhone? It’s been over two years since the iPhone was officially announce and we’ve gotten little or no indication that Apple is designing a new hardware.

Its very existence ensures that the next iPhone will be even better than it otherwise would have been.” And he concludes that “Droid is the Alpha phone. And I will love it and only it. Until something better comes along.” That’s well said, assuming Apple has seen the Droid before finalizing the design of the iPhone 4G.

That the Motorola Droid is exclusive to Verizon puts it in a very good position to dominate the iPhone, at least, in the U.S. market. Never mind that currently, the iTunes App Store boasts 10 times more appas than the Google. Soon, Google Android developers will catch up.

For a great head to head between the Motorola Droid and the iPhone 3GS, Mobile Crunch has it in two parts. They have this conclusion:

With Android 2.0, we’ve come to a very difficult crossroad. No longer can we recommend one handset over the other simply by its feature set. At this point, it’s all about the person who will be carrying it. For you, dearest TechCrunch Network reader: Yes, I’d probably recommend the Droid over an iPhone. Would I recommend it for your mother, father, or little sister? Nope. If you want a phone that just works and does damned near everything you could want and don’t mind Apple’s closed garden: by all means, get the iPhone. If you can handle a bit of complexity for the sake of flexibility and don’t mind having to tinker a bit: by all means, get the Droid. At this point, I honestly feel that either choice would make any sane person incredibly happy.

Right now, I’m going for the iPhone because of the ease of the Interface. On the all-important looks department, I find the Motorola Droid narrow enough to my liking. The iPhone has always been too wide for time. Another important factor to consider is pricing, not just the MSRP of every unit, but the amount you’ll spend to enjoy your smartphone on their respective networks. Here’s PC World on Droid fees on the Verizon network: $30 for tethering on an ulimited plan (limited to 5GB) or $60 for 10GB; Microsoft Exchange has a separate $45 a month for 5GB; and cacellation is $350.

Word is that LG is prepping a follow-up to their maiden Android release with one that packs a Snapdragon chip as its processor. Yup, that’s the same speedy Qualcomm chip that can be found in the likes of the HTC HD2, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, and the Acer Liquid. Details about its other specs are pretty scarce though, but LG is assuring us that it’ll be “more mature” than their current Android offering, the LG GW620 Eve. It’s expected to hit the Korean market in Q2 of 2010, and we also hear that their considering its release outside Korea as well. Keep your fingers crossed guys as it would be a mighty shame if this baby wasn’t made available in the international market.

Joining the Motorola Droid in the Android 2.0 scene, Moto has just unveiled their new collection of Android-based MID products. Called the AMP, short for Android Media Platform, these are actually targeting developers who want a portable solution to test their Android wares out before unleashing them into the market. The only AMP version available right now comes with a 5-inch OLED capacitive touchscreen, 256MB NAND, front-facing 8-megpixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, OMAP3430 processor, and Android 2.0 as its OS with the option to upgrade to a 3G module. A smaller 3.5-inch variant and a heftier 10-inch tablet are currently in development. Price wasn’t mentioned, but if you seriously want to get one, just get in touch with them for more details.

We rarely hear of a firmware update for a cheap Chinese PMP. Benss has recently announced one for the iCool BX-96 gamer with good reason. The BX-96 looks sleek, despite the PSP looks. The new firmware update, which can be uploaded from Benss site, gives the BX-96 a new 3D user interface. My Chinese is not too good but the new UI should have a more sensible feel about it. Also included in the firmware upgrade is support for 720p RMVB playback, as well as fix bugs, improve speed and stability. Besides the goodies that come with the update, the BX-96 is a 4.3-inch player and an 8- to 32-bit gamer (it even supports some 64-bit games) and comes with a 5 MP camera.
