This is an award-winner? Anyway, it should feel really good in your hand.

Microsoft is unloading a boatload of information about Windows Phone 7 at MIX 2010 including details on the new Windows Phone Marketplace, and fortunately, they’ve also treated us to a preview of what could be Samsung’s first Windows Phone 7 device.

They also showed off the same Windows Phone 7 LG QWERTY slider we talked about last month. Unfortunately, they didn’t discuss anything further about these phones apart from their form factor. However, given that Microsoft is laying down some strict hardware requirements, it’s safe to say that both devices will have at least a 5-megapixel camera and flash, 256MB RAM, 8GB flash memory, and ARMv7 Cortex/Scorpion processor on-board. Standard features for all Windows Phone 7 devices include GPU with DirectX9 support, A-GPS, compass, accelerometer, light and proximity sensor. These two, along with the rest of the first batch phones, will boast of an 800×480 resolution capacitive touchscreen display as 480×320 displays will only be supported later on.

Hopefully, we’ll get the model names of these two Windows Phone 7 devices sometime later this week or in the coming months.

Microsoft has just officially unveiled the new Phone Marketplace that will complement and probably make or break their recently announced Windows Phone 7 platform.

Apart from the aesthetic changes that’s now streamlined with the new look of the OS, they’ve finally some change to make it more competitive with the Apple App Store and Google’s Android Market. Windows Phone Marketplace now supports credit card purchases, operator billing, and ad-supported content as well as a try-before-you-buy scheme. Purchased apps can be pinned to the Quick Launch screen making it easier to access. It’s also confirmed that the new Windows Phone Marketplace will be the official exclusive distributor of apps for Windows Phone 7. However, enterprise customers will be allowed to directly deploy apps to employees bypassing the Marketplace interface.

It looks like they’ve done a pretty good job in overhauling the whole system to make it more relevant and up-to-date with today’s standards. The question now is, how many apps will the Windows Phone Marketplace have once the first batch of Windows Phone 7-based devices begins to roll out later this year?

To start, the V5 is a 4.8-inch touchscreen PMP boasting HD support. That’s 720p, viewable via HDMI. Enadget was given a white 16GB.

As a COWON PMP. the V5 is superb on audio and video:

“The V5 is a top-notch media player. Videos load instantly and play back smoothly (even larger 720p clips), and music tracks do likewise. Fast-forward and rewind functions are also incredibly snappy, and the display really shines when you throw a higher bitrate movie clip in here. As for audio quality? It’s as good as it gets.”

We’re glad that Engadget that the interface is responsive and proved to be an improvement on previous COWONs. The lack of WiFi, though, seems to put a damper on the COWON V5, especially with a $300 price tag for the 16GB.

In the case of the iPhone, when its battery dies, Apple will charge you a corresponding service fee to have a new one battery installed on it.

With the new iPad, however, they just won’t replace the battery. They’ll give you a new iPad for just $99 exclusive of shipping charges. This is what they disclosed in their iPad Battery Replacement Program FAQ:

If your iPad requires service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee.

Not bad, eh? Getting a new iPad is definitely more well worth it than just getting its battery replaced. Unfortunately, this policy is only applies to the iPad, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed and hoping that Apple will have a change of heart and carry it over to the iPhone as well as the iPod Touch and other iPod models.

Victor Castroll, an analyst with Valcent Financial Group, puts it in dolllars:

“Apple has been able to generate over $75 million in revenue in one day on a product that 99.9% of purchasers haven’t touched or for that matter, even seen in person.”

Earlier, it was announced that Apple could only get 300k units on store shelves at launch day.
Unfortunately though, while these photos do provide us with additional info as to the build of the BlackBerry Slider, we still don’t know the rest of its specs and whether this is just some sort of a sick joke or not. Hopefully, the next batch of leaks will provide us with more detail on its features, and it certainly wouldn’t hurt either if we get some confirmation on the authenticity of this particular RIM device.

The Nokia Cseries became official when the Finnish phone maker finally unveiled their first mobile phone offering under this new line, the Nokia C5. It was a pretty underwhelming device, but if this rendering of its upcoming sibling, the Nokia C6, proves to be true, it might be worth looking out for.

Form factor-wise, the Nokia C6 is like the lovechild of the Nokia E75 and the Nokia 5230. This handset follows in the footsteps of the Nokia N900 and N97/N97 Mini both of which are QWERTY touchscreen slider phones. The silver lining here though is that, apparently, it only comes come with 256MB internal memory, but that should be much of an issue just as long as it’s bundled with a 2GB/4GB microSD card. Apart from that, there’s still very little info about this particular Cseries phone’s specs.

For what it’s worth, this should serve as a heads up for you Nokia fan boys out there waiting on a more affordable touchscreen QWERTY phone to be released if this render is indeed spot on.
