Packard Bell “dot” Netbook Clones Aspire One

Tue, Sep 23, 2008

Packard Bell has officially jumped into the netbook market with its cutely named “dot” netbook. It’s not the most unique mini-laptop despite the name. The 8.9-inch 1024 x 60-pixel screen, 1GB RAM and 160GB hard drive outs it in direct competition with just about all the recent outings in its category. In fact, you can’t help but notice how much the “dot” resembles Acer’s Aspire One. The “dot” ups the ante somewhat with a 6-cell battery, 3G option and an exclusively XP OS. Price tag is smarting at €399 or $580.

T-Mobile G1: Great Phone W/ Awful Grammar

Tue, Sep 23, 2008

The first Android Phone has just been launched in the U.S. It’s sleek, well-featured, powerful and it’s got a QWERTY keyboard, but that’s not wht makes the T-Mobile G1 such a cute alternative to the iPhone. What makes it so cute and so hip and oh-so desirable is its brash disregard for the English grammar. Keep reading to get to the video.

Apple Sells 5 Million iPhone 3G

Tue, Sep 23, 2008

Piper Jaffray claims to know the sales numbers of the iPhone 3G and they are putting it at around 5 million ending this fourth fiscal year. It’s not a bad number though quite modest after Apple raised expectations by selling a million 3G versions of the iPhone on its first week. The 10 million units target for the entire 2008 year is still a mathematical possibility, though a hotshot coming out of T-Mobile could come in the way of Apple reaching that milestone.

TmoNews has the apparent news on the first Google Android phone to be launching on T-Mobile. (Isn’t it September 23rd already, so why hasn’t T-Mobile officially announced the phone?). TmoNews, however, has the confirmed leaks and now we know the Android phone will be dubbed T-Mobile G1. It’s a touchscreen phone with a slideout keyboard. The hands-on photo from rizzn.com shows a beautiful device that will do well to the crowd of tech lovers tired of looking at the over-a-year-old iPhone hardware. Specs include a 3.1 megapixel camera, WiFi, A-GPS and 3G available to those in areas serviced by T-Mobile 3G. The phone will have quick access to Maps (including satellite, traffic, street views), Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk. Screen resolution is something different 480×320 or HVGA (half VGA). No pricing yet but T-Mobile will offer free G-Mail as an alternative to the BlackBerry service.

Update: price is an awesome $179 with contract. Say hello to the new iPhone Killer.

Akai K11 PMP Makes a Big Deal of its 1.3 MP Camera

Tue, Sep 23, 2008

It’s not every day that we come across a PMP maker that’s so far behind the times as Akai. With its Japanese-sounding name, one would think a 1.3 megapixel camera at the back of its latest PMP, especially one so glaringly old-fashioned, not to mention huge, wouldn’t be something it would be proud of. On the contrary, Akai is pretty hyped up over the K11, which, besides having a decent 3-inch 400 x 240-ixel screen and AVI, RM, RMVB support, has a 1.3 MP at the back. The camera is a huge one, reminding us that tech from three years ago may come back to haunt us via China. Oh, yes, the MP3, WMA, AAC, APE, FLAC and PlayFX should clue you in about the Chinese origins of this baby.

The LG Renoir features an 8-megapixel camera complemented by Schneider-Kreuznach lens and a Xenon flash, a large 3-inch 240×400 WQVGA touchscreen, A-GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, and 3G/HSDPA connectivity. Chinavasion projector Phone Boasts iPhone UI

Mon, Sep 22, 2008

For all the talk of PicoP and Motorola on putting projector on cellphones, China has sneaked into the new market with this subtle $365 (one dollar for every day of the year) - fully functioning projector phone. Still without branding, it’s a triband GSM phone with a touchscreen with a projector that supports a 640×480-pixel resolution image. On board is a 1.3 MP camera and camcorder. It can play music and video files and it supports A2DP Bluetooth. Frankly, it is identical in looks and specs to ChinaKing’s projector phone and may be the same model.

Samsung Armani M75500 Night Effect is Flashy and not Cute

Mon, Sep 22, 2008

I’m sor far off the beaten path when it comes to fashion I won’t be surprised if my opinions about the Samsung Armani - excuse me, EMPORIO Armani M75500 phone will be considered as absolute nonsense on fashion from a hick by many. I don’t care, I think the phone is a disaster in fashion as well as tech taste. Is the blinking neon sign on the phone and the tacky Emporio Armani label at the back below the 3 MP camera supposed to be cute? The price tag has nothing cute about it too. For 300 euros or about $439, you could probably buy a decent phone with that money and not this regrettable piece of misinformed fashionista garbage.

Official iRiver P.ple P20

Mon, Sep 22, 2008

The P.Ple P20 is now showing on iRiver’s official site and it has been formally nickname the multimedia player for professionals. I say it’s the P20’s formal designation, but I don’t see a reason why non-pros should not be able to get one off the shelf if he likes it enough. The 4.1-inch 480 x 272-pixel Amoled display is attractive enough, especially with 80GB or 120GB of storage. It plays MPEG4, XviD, WMV9, MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, APE, FLAC, JPEG, RAW, BMP, GIF, PNG and has added support for DOC, XLS, PPT, PDF, HWP, GUL, HTML / HTM / MHTML, TXT, SWF. I say, I need this baby. With a DMB tuner, FM tuner built-in mic and speaker it’s 300 euros ($439) for the 80GB and 320 ($468) euros for the 120GB.

16GB iPod Nano 4G Copied From Zune

Sun, Sep 21, 2008

Not only did Apple apparently copy the new iPod Nano’s long form factor from the Zune, it also pilfered the idea of introducing a 16GB version from the Microsoft PMP. Oiginally, Apple planned to release two Nano 4G versions, the 4GB and 8GB but upon learning that Microsoft was going to release a 16GB Zune and to make matters more competitive, Microsoft priced the 16GB Zune $199, whch was what the 8GB was initially going for. Well, you know the rest. Apple in the end announced the 8GB Nano 4G, slapped it with the original 4GB price and then produced a 16GB version with the 8GB price tag. The 4GB Nano. Last we heard it was announced in some select territories. Thank goodness for competition we’re getting awesome products, great storage for the best price possible. In the Nano’s case, double the storage for the ame price.
