Sagem Spiga Takes Over From UMID M1 Mbook

Fri, Nov 6, 2009

sagemcom_spiga_notebookWe cannot confirm if Sagem has changed the specs of the UMID M1 mbook, but what we can say is that the renamed Sagem Spiga will go for less: 499 euros from the previous 600 to 700.

It’s still the same tiny 4.8-inch (1024 x 600) screen netbook with the 1.1GHz Intel Atom processor, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and a webcam. Hopefully, Sagem will improve the build quality of the smallest laptop in the world, a flaw which had garnered the most complaints. Video after the break. See if you can spot some changes.

LG Snapdragon Android phone due in Q2 of 2010

lg-androidIf you found LG GW620 Eve a little bit too tame for your taste, then we’ve got good new for you. Word is that LG is prepping a follow-up to their maiden Android release with one that packs a Snapdragon chip as its processor. Yup, that’s the same speedy Qualcomm chip that can be found in the likes of the HTC HD2, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, and the Acer Liquid. Details about its other specs are pretty scarce though, but LG is assuring us that it’ll be “more mature” than their current Android offering, the LG GW620 Eve. It’s expected to hit the Korean market in Q2 of 2010, and we also hear that their considering its release outside Korea as well. Keep your fingers crossed guys as it would be a mighty shame if this baby wasn’t made available in the international market.

MOTO AMP Android MID

Joining the Motorola Droid in the Android 2.0 scene, Moto has just unveiled their new collection of Android-based MID products. Called the AMP, short for Android Media Platform, these are actually targeting developers who want a portable solution to test their Android wares out before unleashing them into the market. The only AMP version available right now comes with a 5-inch OLED capacitive touchscreen, 256MB NAND, front-facing 8-megpixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, OMAP3430 processor, and Android 2.0 as its OS with the option to upgrade to a 3G module. A smaller 3.5-inch variant and a heftier 10-inch tablet are currently in development. Price wasn’t mentioned, but if you seriously want to get one, just get in touch with them for more details.

Benss iCool BX-96, So Awesome They Gave it a Firmware Update

benss-icool

We rarely hear of a firmware update for a cheap Chinese PMP. Benss has recently announced one for the iCool BX-96 gamer with good reason. The BX-96 looks sleek, despite the PSP looks. The new firmware update, which can be uploaded from Benss site, gives the BX-96 a new 3D user interface. My Chinese is not too good but the new UI should have a more sensible feel about it. Also included in the firmware upgrade is support for 720p RMVB playback, as well as fix bugs, improve speed and stability. Besides the goodies that come with the update, the BX-96 is a 4.3-inch player and an 8- to 32-bit gamer (it even supports some 64-bit games) and comes with a 5 MP camera. This Benss gamer plays RMVB , RM, FLV, AVI, H.264 videos.

$99 iPhone 3GS 8GB for Christmas?

Fri, Nov 6, 2009

99-iphone-3g-sHow would you like to give yourself a cheapskate’s Christmas tech gift? Boy Genius Report is saying they have unconfirmed reports that the 8GB iPhone 3GS will be sold by AT&T at the cut-rate price of $99. If AT&T and Apple confirms this early, it might stave off a Droid invasion in the touchscreen smartphone market. The iPhone 3GS 16GB currently sells for $199 with contract, while the prvious model iPhone 3G sells for $99 with 8GB of memory. It means Apple fears Droid. An $100 decrease 8GB iPhone 3GS will not significantly decrease revenues… that is, if iPhone 4G wasn’t suddenly announced, which would make the price cut a simple act of clearing inventory.

Editor’s note: we wrongly stated that there will be a $100 decrease from the current iPhone 3GS model. No, the 8GB rumor is an entirely new model in addition to the current 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3GS.

eStarling 802.11n Touchscreen Photo Frame Makes iPhone Redundant at Home

estarling-80211n

Okay, so the title is an exaggeration but one has to admit that eStarling’s new touchscreen photo frame is impressive–as far as digital frames go. Each unit will have its own GMail address for photo uploading from via email. The WiFi lets you connect Facebook, Photobucket and Flickr and display photos from there. It makes sense for photo frames to have access to photo-sharing sites and social networking sites. The eStarling 802.11n plays videos as well and with the touch-operation, even grandmother can operate it. The 10.2-inch screen should be enough for home use, and the $249.9 price isn’t too bad considering the functionality. I also like the matter-of-fact name this device goes by.

Archos 1 Vision Mini-PMP is OEM Friendly

Fri, Nov 6, 2009

archos_vision_1-pmpFrench manufacturer Archos has been bitten by the budget bug lately. Despite the premium Internet tablets (e.g. Archos 5), the company has been keen on flooding the market with cheap mini-PMPs. The Archos Clipper, Vision 2 and Vision 3 have all come out this year to a pretty much disinterested public. And now they are releasing the 30-euro Archos Vision 1. The 1.5-inch LCD screen and lack of video support despite the name will not charm anyone but perhaps the price tag will. It supports MP3, WAV, WMA, APE, FLAC,  music files and plays continuously for 20 hours at a single charge.

Sungale Cyberus ID700WTA eReader PMP Introduced

Fri, Nov 6, 2009

sungale-cyberus-id700wta-pmp

The 7-inch touchscreen Cyberus ID700WTA is, practically speaking, a PMP but it does support eBooks, which the company is touting as an alternative to the E-Ink readers like the Amazon Kindle and the Barnes and Noble Nook. It also has WiFi connectivity and a user-interface that resembles the iPhone UI. Movie support is a big one on the Cyberus: AVI, MPEG4, DIVIX, XIVID, WMA, JPG, BMP, TIFF, PNG. As for eBooks, you have PDF support and TXT. For a product like this one, user-friendliness means a lot. Unfortunately, Sungale hasn’t accompanied their press release with a demo video. Suffice it to say that the $279 price tag is hardly reasonable if it didn’t come with leather case and support for YouTube, Picasa and GMail.

htc droid erisConfirming everything we’ve already reported in the past, Verizon, together with HTC, has just announced the HTC Droid Eris, the new sibling of the Motorola Droid. It will indeed be released available beginning tomorrow, November 6, for $99 after a $100 mail-in rebate is applied on a new 2-year contract bundled with an email feature or plan. For those who weren’t able to keep track of our Droid Eris posts, this new sibling of the Droid comes with a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel autofocus camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3.5mm jack, trackball interface, HTC Sense, and ships pre-installed with an 8GB microSD card. They didn’t specifically mention what Android OS it’s based on, but a bunch of leaked documents suggest that it’s Android 1.5 running on this baby. So, now that it’s official, will you be getting an HTC Droid Eris Android phone soon?

RAmos T10 RK, New Chip for the iKiss

Thu, Nov 5, 2009

ramos_t10-rk_1The iKiss PMP, otherwise known as the RAmos T10, is one of those sensible-looking Chinese PMPs that make us proud to be covering them. It also makes us wish RAmos has sent us an official demo video. If take a look at the previous model, this PMP has awesome written all over it: 1080p HD video support and a ton of supported video files that’ll make iPod owners so jealous. The new RK2806chipset should make viewing these video files an even more pleasurable activity. The 4.3-inch screen supports 800 x 480 pixels. No price on stores yet.
